I love using tools. It was that place of effort, the studio, where a person could come into another kind of space, often experiencing a leaping connection, something new, a new thought, a new form, a new relationship of forms or colors or words.

One’s studio…

In the same way an artist imbues their vitality into their work, it happens that that same vitality soaks into the walls of the spaces, of their studios and creates a numinous spaciousness.

There were many studios that I experienced. Thomas Cole’s studio held that energy. Walking up the steps to Mozart’s apartment where he lived as a boy in Salzburg I felt my throat breaking, imagining his infinite vitality that touched the whole world.

One’s studio is a place where one’s deep longing to know and articulate and fashion can open a journey inward. More than any other reward, the fruit of all effort allows an experience of simmering vitality and connection.

Within this space I continued my journey—an unfolding, over time, of themes that reappear and deepen. Over time the experience and articulation of stillness and flow and a spaciousness within my forms became a central energy to follow.
